Dendrobium johannis
Dendrobium johannis
x sib
A compact/miniature Dendrobium species that grows in Northeastern Australia and New Guinea.
Blooms in sprays of small golden brown flowers with corkscrew petals, a bright yellow lip, and a purple “nose” (anther cap). Typically blooms in the fall.
Grown from seed.
Plants Available: Mature plants potted or mounted on driftwood. Blooming October/November.
Orchid Care: This Dendrobium variety is a hard-caned antelope type. It grows naturally along the edges of rainforests where rainfall is heavy during the summer and early autumn, but very low in winter and spring. Hobbyists should mimic this seasonal variation at home by providing a rest period during the cooler months.
Very bright light is required to produce flowers. Plants may be grown in the upper rungs of the greenhouse or provided with some direct morning sun (avoid midday, 11-3).
