Cycd. Wine Delight (Variegated)
Cycd. Wine Delight (Variegated)
(Cycnoches lehmannii × Mormodes sinuata)
Variegated form of the ‘J.E.M.’ FCC/AOS mericlone.
Wine Delight is a fragrant, fall-blooming member of the Catasetinae group. Plants produce bloomspikes at the end of their active growth cycle (spring-summer). These emerge from the nodes of the bulbous new growth as white-yellow nubs, only revealing the red pigment of the flowers as they near blooming.
Plants Available: Examples of the plants available are pictured. Orders will be filled with plants in spike/bud/bloom as blooming stock and blooming season permit; otherwise, mature plants which have bloomed previously.
Orchid Care: This primary hybrid is a member of the Catasetinae group. Abundant resources are available on the culture and care of this subtribe of orchids. We recommend the following for growing tips and general info: the American Orchid Society’s Catasetum Culture Sheet and Cycnoches overview, and Sue Bottom’s article, “Catasetum’s and Their Kin.”
In general, we grow Catasetum-types alongside Cattleyas during the spring and summer, where they get bright indirect light and are watered and fertilized generously. Plants in this group go dormant after blooming, however, and should be provided a significant rest from water and fertilizer after flowers finish, during the cooler months.
