Dendrobium pendulum
Dendrobium pendulum
“The Pendant Growing Dendrobium”
Deciduous and pendulous, this species is recognizable from its pseudobulbs’ swollen nodes, which give the canes an accordion-like appearance.
Small, fragrant flowers form from at nodes of mature, leafless canes. Blooms are white with pink/purple petal tips and an egg-yolk yellow throat.
Grown from seed.
Plants Available: A limited number of plants growing in 3”/4” pots. Plants available are comparable to the #2 option pictured.
Orchid Care: Care as for nobile-type Dendrobiums. Grow in very bright light with strong air circulation. Some direct sun is okay, particularly during the cool, dry rest period. Plants can be grown in pots or mounted. Water frequently and generously while plants are actively growing (late spring through early fall), but this variety requires a dry rest during the cooler months. In our Gulf Coast Florida greenhouses, that period is roughly from Thanksgiving to late March. Plants should be allowed to dry out completely between waterings during this dry season.
