Cattleya warscewiczii
'Orquifellejes' x sib
Syn. Cattleya gigas
South American Cattleya species endemic to Northern Colombia. Warm growing and fragrant. Blooms in the summer months.
Grown from seed so flower characteristics will vary somewhat from plant to plant. Compare the blooms pictured for an example of these variations.
Plants Available: See plant selection dropdown menu for availability. The 6” Pot option currently available is pictured.
Orchid Care: Provide ample light, humidity, and air circulation. C. warscewiczii thrives in very high light, though shade is recommended at midday. The American Orchid Society provides the following recommendation on watering for species like warscewiczii (gigas) in the labiata group:
Watering should be thorough, enough to keep plants plump, with less water (but do not dry out) as the plants prepare to flower. After flowering, the plants can be kept drier until new growth begins. Review the earlier installments on culture, for the labiate Cattleyas are of intermediate cultural types, able to adapt themselves to varying conditions more readily than almost any other kind of orchid.
