Phragmipedium besseae
Phragmipedium besseae
(‘Mega’ × ‘Zephyrus Mega’)
Phragmipedium species found in mountainous regions of Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia.
Grown from seed, so flower and plant characteristics may vary somewhat from plant to plant.
Plants Available: Growing in 4” pots. The plants pictured are the plants currently available.
Orchid Care: Plants should be kept potted. Grow in bright shade, no direct sun (e.g. light levels appropriate to Phalaenopsis), with high humidity and intermediate temperatures. Temperatures range from 60F - 80F in besseae’s natural habitat with little variation by season. Accordingly, hobbyists should maintain even conditions in the growing environment year round. Plants should be watered regularly and generously; do not allow roots to dry out between waterings.
For additional notes on Phrags and their culture, see the American Orchid Society’s overview.
