Phrag. Hat Creek
Phrag. Hat Creek
(Phragmipedium hartwegii × Phragmipedium fischeri)
Primary hybrid of Phrag. species Phrag. hartwegii and Phrag. fischeri. Cute as a button! (Ashley’s new favorite Phrag.)
Plants bloom sequentially from the same bloom spike with new buds forming to replace the spent flowers when they drop. As a result, plants may bloom continuously for months; so it is important not to cut the bloom spike until it begins to dry out.
Grown from seed, so flower characteristics and color may vary somewhat from plant to plant.
Plants Available: Growing in 4” pots. The plant pictured is an example of the size available. The plant currently available is a mature plant with two fans.
Orchid Care: Grow potted in bright, filtered light with good air circulation and keep moist. This hybrid is composed predominantly of species with high water requirements. Plants should be watered regularly and generously; do not allow them to dry hard between waterings.
Beware the accumulation of salts in potting media or dissolved salts in water (i.e., from heavy fertilization or water treated through a softener, which is a no-no). Plants may decline in response. Fertilize at quarter-to-half strength. Repot annually.
