from $35.00

Syn. Warczewiczella amazonica

A member of the Zygopetalum alliance with soft leaves and a sympodial fan-like growth habit, this species can be found throughout much of South America and, in particular, the Amazon basin.

Each inflorescence produces a white flower with small petals and sepals a large white lip with dark violet purple striations marking the throat.

Typically blooms in fall/winter, though may bloom at any time of year. For the foliage lovers among us, the fans of this variety are wonderfully lush, with or without the blooms.

Grown from seed.

Plants Available: Single and multigrowth plants growing in 4” pots. The plants pictured are among the plants available and otherwise represent the plant you will receive when you order each the 4” Pot - Single and 4” Pot - Multi.

Orchid Care: Grow in moderate light, with no direct sun. Take note of this plant’s growth habit In determining potting substrate and, accordingly, watering frequency. Soft-leaved and pseudobulbless, Cnths. amazonica has no primary water storage organ, so plants will require a mix and watering regimen that allows you to keep them evenly moist throughout the year. Some growers elect only sphagnum for this purpose, while others do well with a coco bark slurry. We’ve found success with a mix of sphagnum and tree fern when repotting mature plants. Whatever your choice, do not allow the roots to dry out completely and, as always, provide strong air circulation to the plant and your growing space. (Stale air and moist media spell doomsday for many an orchid.)
