Dendrobium hodgkinsonii
Dendrobium hodgkinsonii
x sib
Fall-blooming Dendrobium species found in New Guinea. Each inflorescence produces several creamy white flowers, which tend to become more numerous as plants mature. Plants have distinctive foliage—leaves are dark green with something of a matte silvery grey finish that gives them a powdery or frosted appearance (think Rl. glauca). Blooms in the fall.
Grown from seed.
Plants Available: Mature plants growing in 4” pots. Plants are in low spike in September. The plant pictured in full is among the plants available and otherwise represents the size offered.
Orchid Care: Grow in very bright light. Some direct sun is okay outside the hottest hours of the day. Water generously and fertilize regularly while plants are actively growing (spring and summer), but reduce water and fertilizer somewhat during the cooler months.
Growing note: You’ll find a range of growing advice on this species. Care may be similar to Den. spectabile or Den. speciosum, e.g.. In our greenhouses, we find Den. hodgkinsonii are not so finicky. If you’ve had success with other Latouria types, you should have luck with this variety as well.
